Devon Gabriella Shares The Blood On Her Hands

Devon Gabriella is known for using her music to express her internal chaos, turning it into soft, sensible, vulnerable, and emotional songs through her indie-pop sound. A 24-year-old singer-songwriter from California, she has been active since 2020, when she released her first single, “The Way That I See You.” Since then, she has released several other projects, including her first EP: The Garden, her first album: From The Next Room, and popular singles such as “remind me,” “get clean,” and “a little hope never hurt.”

Her newest release, “Blood On Our Hands,” is a single that we loved from the moment we pressed play until the very end.

We’ve all felt guilty about something at some point, which automatically makes this song relatable in one way or another, as that is the feeling that Devon touches on in this single. She uses vivid imagery to convey the feeling of being so guilty that we feel as if we have blood on our hands. This single explores how remorseful you can feel about repeatedly meeting with someone you know you shouldn’t be involved with. It’s about pushing the boundaries further than you know you should, but being unable to stop yourself because you are so drawn to that person. Eventually, it gets to the point where the guilt becomes so strong that you feel you have committed a literal crime and have blood on your hands. Devon uses this imagery to imply that both the narrator and the person they are meeting up with are guilty in this situation, as they each have blood on their hands.

This song is about wrestling with a deep internal battle, one in which the narrator knows they should stay away, but can’t bring themselves to do so because they are so drawn to this person. They hold on to this little spark of hope, thinking that maybe this time will be different. And maybe it will. But maybe it won’t. So, is it worth it to continue trying?

This song takes a common saying and uses it to give the listener a very vivid picture of a predicament. It touches on want, need, and regret. And it does all of this in such a beautiful, unique way that really screams Devon.

Devon’s new EP, All At Once, is set to be released on November 13 and will include this new single along with the other lead singles, “Crash and Burn,” “Miss Us,” and “Charlie.” If you’re a fan of Devon and want to catch her live, she also kicks off her first-ever headline tour this December.

We definitely recommend keeping an eye on her because this is just the beginning for Devon and her career.
