She’s Green played a dreamy set at the hidden black-box theater in Somerville, Massachusetts, on Tuesday, October 6. The Rockwell, a 200-person-capacity venue, gave the show an intimate feel with the crowd scattered across the floor and tiered seats.

Even with a delayed start due to last-minute tech setup, the opening acts, smush and Witches Exist, eased any frustration among the crowd with their gracious attitudes and melancholic soundscapes. The first act, smush, kicked off their set by thanking the audience for waiting for them and introducing their Brooklyn-based band. The four members, lead vocalist and bassist Emily Borrowman, guitarist Atley King, drummer Jay Christie, and keyboardist Wilson Woods warmed the crowd for their following acts and joined fans in the venue lobby afterwards to sell merch and connect with fans.

A brief intermission followed smush’s stage exit to allow for a reset before the rapidly rising group Witches Exist took the stage. A five-person group from Austin, Texas, with members Jackson Baker, Jimmy Mercado, Anthony Day, Jacob Silvia, and lead vocalist Arianna Macris, set the stage with their moody, atmospheric songs. A clear crowd favorite, they rocked the stage with minimal interruptions before clearing for the headliner.

She’s Green took the stage with an immediately confident stage presence and repeatedly thanked their openers, the crowd, and their promoter for their presence as well as their time. The five-person band from Minnesota, consisting of Zofia Smith, Liam Armstrong, Raines Lucas, Teddy Nordvold, and Kevin Seebeck, shared songs from their recent album “swallowtail,” such as “locket,” “empty house,” and “mettle.” They also performed fan favorites, such as “mandy,” “graze,” and “willow.” A true dream-pop band, She’s Green features clear, soft, and beautiful vocals intertwined with haunting, ethereal, and floating reverb.

Lead vocalist Zofia shared a moving reminder to check on our loved ones and to be mindful of all that’s going on in the world. She also declared, “Free Palestine,” a sentiment that has been circulating and gaining traction among other musical artists. The conversation around Palestine has recently made additional headlines among artists such as Macklemore and Zach Bryan, who both have been open in their support of Palestinians despite pushback from other leaders in the industry.  The She’s Green audience responded with cheers and applause following Zofia’s short speech before the band played their final songs of the night.

The Rockwell in Somerville, Massachusetts, marked the band’s seventh tour stop out of 32 across the United States from September to November. For any underground indie music lovers out there, She’s Green is well worth a listen and, better yet, worth the price of a ticket if given the chance to see them live. Tickets can still be purchased on the band’s website.
